Cardiovascular Testing

Cardiovascular disease is the number 1 killer for both men and women in the United States. There are several basic tests to evaluate basic cardiac function that we can perform here at our clinic. These include:

  • Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG), a test that measures the electrical activity of the heartbeat. The test is performed by a technician who will place stickers on your arms and legs and over the front of the chest. The stickers are connected to separate wires (leads) that connect to the ECG machine. Once the leads are placed, the test is recorded in seconds.
  • Chest X-ray, which gives the doctor information about your lungs and the heart’s size and shape.
  • MRI of the heart, Echocardiogram, and ultrasound of the inside of the heart can detect nearly every congenital heart defect or any problem of the heart muscle function.
  • Arterial Doppler can detect/suggest the presence of peripheral vascular disease, or blockage in legs, which can be suggestive of heart disease and circulation issues. The Doppler also provides an estimate of the biological age of the arteries. This is accomplished in minutes with a simple pulse oximeter on the patient fingertip.

Our Cardiovascular Testing Process

Initial Consultation

An initial consultation might include the following: you'll answer questions about your symptoms and medical history, and then have a physical exam. The doctor might need to perform tests to make a diagnosis and recommend treatment. The tests might include blood work, a chest X-ray, an Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG), or an MRI.

Treatment

Depending on the diagnosis, there are many treatment options including oral medications. Your treatment plan will be largely dictated by the findings made during your examination and diagnostic/imaging test results.

Follow-Up

You can be assured that our team tailors each and every cardiac visit, as no two patients are alike. We take the necessary time and give proper attention to accurately diagnose and treat every patient’s condition.
